A Comp Has Two Faces

"Thank You". There are many ways to say and show someone how thankful a person is to that someone. The person in gratitude may simply say "thank you" or you may receive a gift from that person. A complimentary. In short, comps.

It has been a debate as to whether it is a good thing or a good sign if you are entitled to a comp, especially if a certain comp received is extravagant.

Another question that may arise is that "why do this casinos give/offer these kind of things? What are they thanking me for anyway?

There coin has two sides, heads and tails. There are two sides in a man's behavior, good and bad. At the same time, there are also two sides of a comp, its pros and cons.

Everything and every situation have its own pros and cons. It is inevitable. It is up to you how you will weigh these things.

Let us talk about the down side. Why do casinos have the guts to offer such extravagant "gifts"? Will it not eat away their profit? Actually, when you think about it, it doesn't. How so? As any other establishments, how does one attract clients? Promos, right? The sound of a discount really makes one's ears to be keener.

Casinos don't do discounts on their games; instead, they do it more in style. They do it by way of comps. The key here is you play longer. The longer you play the more money you spend, which is the goal.

And what can motivate a person to keep on playing? If you are offered a free drink, or better, a one night stay on a suite, free of charge. Wouldn't you grab that chance?

But wait, there's a catch. In order to qualify for these comps, you have to earn it first. For example, you have to be a member of club in that particular casino and your games and bets are monitored. And you would say, sure, why not. That sounds easy. Tendency is you play the game to attain these comps. A comp now becomes honey to the bees.

The good side, you say? The "pros" they say. For the longest time that you play inside the casino, there is no guarantee that for every single game you win. There is always that possibility of losses. The best thing about losing though, you know that there is a comp waiting for you.

Think about it. After a game, win or lose, you still get to dine on one of probably the best restaurants serving the best cuisine. Or, you get to enjoy sleeping on probably a 5 star hotel, complete with amenities. And all this is for free, technically.
